Zexcoil® Dual Core™
The Zexcoil Dual Core™ platform is the newest addition to our arsenal of pickups. Dual Core pickups consist of two independent pickups, or “Cores”, side-by-side under a conventionally sized humbucker cover. These two Cores can be anything from our library of tones. They can be voiced completely independent of each other. They can be accessed separately, or in series (or even parallel) combinations. Every combination of the 2 Cores is hum-cancelling. The only limit, really, is our Tone Tuning Technology™ and our imaginations (or maybe, yours).
The TriBucker™
The Zexcoil TriBucker™ is the first pickup we have conjured from our Dual Core platform. Core 1 of the TriBucker is voiced like a conventional single coil, using the same pole piece technology that we use in our Z-Core™ 5 models. Core 2 is voiced like a PAF-style humbucker, using our Juicy pole piece. The series combination of the two Cores yields a response much like a hot P90, yielding three distinct, familiar and imminently usable tones. The TriBucker is available in 4 output levels and is engineered to be compatible with 500 k pots.

TriBucker 1 is recommended for the bridge position. Core 1, at ~ 2.6 H, is targeted at a hot vintage level single coil output (the single Cores especially in the Dual Core platform tend to run a little hotter than their numbers suggest). Core 2, at ~ 4.4 H, is targeted at a PAF level output.
TriBucker 2 is recommended for the bridge position. Core 1, at ~ 2.3 H, is targeted at a vintage level single coil output (for players who want a lower output single coil response in the bridge). Core 2, at ~ 4.4 H, is targeted at a PAF level output.

TriBucker 3 is recommended for the neck position. Core 1, at ~ 2.3 H, is targeted at a vintage level single coil output. Core 2, at ~ 3.6 H, is targeted at a low wind PAF level output.
TriBucker 4 is recommended for the neck position. Core 1, at ~ 1.9 H, is targeted at an underwound vintage level single coil output. Core 2, at ~ 3.1 H, is targeted with a PAF response, but with an output level designed for the naturally louder bridge position.
TriBucker Sets
Various sets can be put together from the combinations of the TriBuckers. The 1/3 combination is probably the closest to the balance that is typical of most conventional humbuckers. We like the balance of the slightly lower output in the neck of the 1/4 combination. Players that want a more vintage feel from the single coil in the bridge can substitute TriBucker 2 in the bridge position in any of these sets. And there are no hard rules on “bridge” and “neck” designations, either. Go ahead and put a 3 or a 4 in the bridge for a spankier response.
The choice is yours. Select any of our 4 TriBucker models to craft a set to meet your tonal holy grail and a Z-Core 5 for the middle position. We recommend a Z-Core 5 Vintage (ZVN5) in the middle position for the best balance with a 1/3 or 1/4 TriBucker pair in split mode. With a 2 in the bridge or for more of a 50s feel, a Z-Core 5 Vintage Underwound (ZVU5) in the middle is an option. For more oomph and fatter, juicier quack, higher Z-Core 5 output levels can certainly work. It’s all a matter of taste and preference anyway, so there are no hard rules.
